And Just Like That!!!! Things are changing!! Governor Holcomb just announced a State Wide mask mandate for all individuals ages 8 in above when out in public spaces and facilities. Yes, this includes school buildings. We are waiting for the released mandate language before moving forward, however, we are preparing to purchase and provide 5 washable mask for all students in grades 3 - 12. While the mandate states children 8 and above, we will also make purchases for students in Pre-K through 2nd grade should the parent desire to have their children wear them. These mask are color coded and in a washable mesh carrying pouch. We are discussing how to handle the washing of the mask and distribution. While I know this is upsetting to many, we will come together as a school community to make the best of this situation. I will keep you updated when we get the final mandate language and also updated regarding the washable mask. We appreciate all of you more than you know! We need you now more than ever supporting Hamilton Schools! We are Marine Strong! Tony Cassel, Superintendent

Hamilton Families - I wanted to share a brief update regarding the start of school. It is our intention for students to return to school on the scheduled start date of Wednesday, August 12, 2020. We know these are uncertain times and we are continually reviewing all available information related to a safe restart to the school year. We will taking measures regarding cleaning the building, cafeteria service, transportation, and all other facets of our school day/community. The issue of mask seems to generate the most concern. At this time, we are anticipating that mask are recommended, but not required. We understand the difficulties in requiring students to wear mask, especially our younger students. However, we also respect staff and students who will choose to wear them. We are finalizing our reentry protocol/guidance and will provide that to the school and community on Tuesday, July 21. We received a very strong response to the parent survey that was sent out, and we are certainly taking your ideas/opinions/desires in to account while making decisions. We understand that a few have expressed concerns about returning and we know that we will need contingent plans to address all the learning needs of our students. We recognize that this is an ever changing situation, and we will address those events if/when they occur. Again, our goal is to have students return to school on August 12, 2020 and we anticipate an outstanding year! While I am certain that this will generate many question, please know that we don't want to release information until we have finalized our reentry protocol/guidance, This could lead to misinformation should the situation change prior to the start of school.

Update - The Governor of Indiana has extended the school closing through May 1, 2020. eLearning will continue on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday’s. There will be no mandatory state testing this spring.
Hamilton Families - As we continue daily to learn our new normal, I wanted to reach out to you all regarding eLearning. As you all know, we are doing eLearning Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursdays. I am asking you to partner with your children's teachers in encouraging you children to complete their weekly assignments by the following Monday after their 3 weekly eLearning days. This helps teachers and more importantly, students stay on top of their studies. In the likely even that this time period is extended, it is important that students stay on top of their studies in order to not fall behind and advance their academic gains as much as possible. The elementary and jr./sr. high have boxes located inside the front set of doors at the jr./sr. high and under the overhang by door 4 at the elementary to turn in paper copies that families have pick up. Several of you popped in to the building today to pick up items your children needed. This will no longer be permitted. The building is open to needed personnel only. If you require materials for your children, contact the school and schedule a time to receive them at specified pick up locations. Our building will be closed to all personnel during Spring Break to allow for a deep clean. I will continue to provide updates as situations change through every available means. As always, thank you for partnering with Hamilton Community Schools in encouraging your students to stay current with their work. Yours in Education, Tony Cassel
Hamilton Community Schools will continue to deliver breakfast and lunch via buses. We would like to implement a new protocol to the process beginning Thursday. When you answer your door and acknowledge that they are there, they will place the meals on your porch, and we ask you not to step out until they have created a safe distance. This is to promote social distancing and keep everyone safe and healthy. It appears that influenza is also starting to show up in the area, so we want to keep everyone safe. Marine Strong! Tony Cassel
